Three weeks into the season, the Southside Panthers are still undefeated.
Southside defeated Beulah 50-20 Friday night in a class 3A, region 3 matchup. Wide receiver DeQuan Johnson had two rushing touchdowns and also had a receiving touchdown to lead the Panthers.
“At halftime I felt we weren’t playing our best so I challenged the boys,” said Southside coach Daniel Flowers. “We came out and ran the ball a lot. We didn’t pass the ball as much as we normally do.”
The win puts the Panthers at 3-0 for the first time since 2004.
Keshawn Arrington had 81 yards and a touchdown receiving and Chris Edwards had 102 yards rushing for the Panthers.
Kenyon Walker scored a defensive touchdown and Edward Moorer scored on a block punt for the Panthers.
Three weeks after struggling to stop Dallas County in a jamboree, the Panthers found a way to slow down Beulah’s wing-T rushing attack.
“We did a good job. They had a couple of big plays but my boys played hard,” Flowers said. “They are getting better.”
Southside hosts Pike County next week.
