There’s so much to do in Selma in October that it’s hard to believe all the events are squeezed into one month. From the Central Alabama Fair to Lobsterfest, there’s truly something for everyone in the family as the calendar turns to fall.

The busy month starts Oct. 1 with Artifact Day at Old Cahawba. The event is a chance for the public to work side by side with researchers to examine, analyze and preserve recently discovered artifacts from Old Cahawba, our state’s first capitol.

The Central Alabama Fair also starts next week and will run from Oct. 3-Oct. 8.

There’s always something special about the fair, from the cozy dogs to the ferris wheel.

If you’re looking for something to put you in the Halloween spirit, look no further than the 10th annual Haunted History Tours at Old Cahawba Archaeological Park. The tours will start on Oct. 7 and are sponsored by the Selma and Dallas County Chamber and Tourism Information. Tours begin at 7, 7:30, 8, 8:30 and 9 p.m. and last approximately 90 minutes.

Integrity Worldwide’s Run for Kenya is on Oct. 8 and will be held in downtown Selma. Integrity will hold a 5K, 10K and a one mile fun run like in past years. Proceeds go toward Integrity’s Worldwide’s mission to start a medical clinic in Meto, Kenya.

St. Paul Episcopal Church’s Lobsterfest will be held on Oct. 13 at the church. Not only is Lobsterfest a chance to chow down on some fresh lobsters, but it’s also a chance to enjoy them with friends and family.

Tale Tellin’ will be held at ArtsRevive on Oct. 14-15. The annual story telling event will feature the Dixieland Cloggers.

A fun day will be held at Paul Grist State Park on Oct. 22. Hayrides, a pony ride, games and more will be available. The Friends of Paul M. Grist State Park started the event and are hoping for a big crowd.

If you can’t make it the first time, Old Cahawba will host another round of Haunted History Tours on Oct. 22. They’ll be even closer to Halloween this time around.

The Alabama Wild Game Cook-Off, a truly unique event, will be held on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. on Water Avenue. The cook-off is always a chance to sample all kinds of wild game and to meet and greet with people in the community. Live music will be played and a silent auction will take place.
