Get ready because there’s plenty to do Saturday

This is one of the busiest weeks of the year in Selma.
Not only was there an election, but there are four local high school football games on Friday night, including two homecomings. After a busy week, we all could use a little bit of fun.
Luckily, Saturday is lined up with events for the whole family. Really good planners will be able to make just about all of them, although it’ll be a challenge.
The day starts with Wallace Community College Selma’s color run for breast cancer awareness from 8 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. The event includes both a 5K and a 1-mile walk around the campus.
Next is the Integrity Worldwide Run for Kenya, which will start at 9 a.m.
The run includes a 10K, 5K and 1-mile run through historic downtown Selma. The race is always a lot of fun, even for spectators cheering on the runners.
The Kenan’s Mill Festival will start at 9 a.m., but will continue into the afternoon. Music will be played from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., headlined by Chip Spencer and the Grasshopper String Band.
At noon, the Central Alabama Marching Band Festival will host the Battle of the Bands at Memorial Stadium. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the gate.
The festival will include performances by Pebblebrook High, Anniston High, Calhoun High, Selma High, Sidney Lanier High, Aliceville High, Central Hayneville High, Tuscaloosa Central High, R.C. Hatch High, Bessemer City High, Woodlawn High, Stillman College and more.
Following Battle of the Bands is one more chance to go to the Central Alabama Fair. The fair will open at 1 p.m. and ride armbands will be $20. The Tiny Miss Contest will be held at 2 p.m. and the Little Miss Contest will be at 4 p.m.
All too often people say that there’s nothing to do in Selma. Well, that’s definitely not the case on Saturday.
