Garbage pickups resume Tuesday

Because of Sunday and Monday’s winter weather garbage pickups for the city of Selma will resume Tuesday.
Selma Public Works Director Tommy Smith said city crews were prepared for pickups on Monday, but would have had nowhere to take the garbage if it was collected.
“With BFI closed, we would have just had to have left it on the truck overnight, which we can’t do with temperatures around freezing,” he said. “We had crews ready to go, but we will have to wait until we can take it to BFI.”
Pickups will resume Tuesday, Smith said. By Friday everything should be back on target.
“We’ll pick up Monday garbage on Tuesday and from there everything will just move back a day,” he said. “We don’t usually pick up on Friday, so we will do that this week and that will get us all caught up.”
