It won’t end in a state championship, but the Meadowview Christian junior varsity volleyball team had a tremendous year.
The Trojans (19-2) lost two matches to Tuscaloosa Christian on Saturday at Meadowview and won’t get a chance to play for the state championship this weekend in Oxford. Meadowview won two matches against Victory-Columbus but needed one more win to qualify for state.
As it turns out, their only two losses of the year came at a bad time.
“They are a great group of girls. They are going to be good in the future I think,” said coach Tim Burton. “I’m very, very proud of them.”
Victory Columbus will go on to represent the South in the state tournament.
Meadowview varsity to play in sub-state match Tuesday
Meadowview Christian (10-2) will play Victory-Columbus Tuesday in a sub-state match at Meadowview at 5 p.m.
The winner will move on to Oxford to play in the Alabama Christian Athletic Association state tournament.
“We need to play decent volleyball,” Burton said. “I think we can pull this one off playing solid. If we get to the [state] tournament, we are going to have to play the best we can play.”
Morgan JV finishes second in state tournament
The Morgan Academy junior varsity volleyball team finished second in the Alabama Independent School Association state tournament Saturday.
Northside Methodist defeated the Senators 25-19 and 25-22. Morgan Academy’s Maggie Colley and Tindall Albritton made the All Tournament Team.
