The Meadowview Christian volleyball team gave it a good run.
The Trojans won a match, but lost two others Friday in the Alabama Christian Athletic Association state tournament. Meadowview won a match against First Assembly, but lost to Marshall Christian and New Life Christian to get eliminated from the tournament.
“I told them to keep their heads up. We had a good season,” said coach Tim Burton. “We finished, I guess you’d say sixth in the state out of 20 or 25 teams. That isn’t nothing to be ashamed of.”
Meadowview’s opening loss to Marshall put the Trojans in the loser’s bracket and it made it tough for the team to recover. Meadowview managed to knock off First Assembly and led early against New Life before falling in two sets.
“The first set was real close,” Burton said. “The second set they’d gotten a little down and it wasn’t as close.”
Despite the loss, Meadowview has reached the state tournament in three consecutive years. The tournament was played in Oxford.
