The Southside Panthers clinched their first winning season since 2005 Friday night following a 44-16 victory over Central Hayneville.
The Panthers (6-2) got four touchdowns from do-it-all receiver DeQuan Johnson, who has now scored 21 times on the season. All four touchdown passes were thrown by G’Neil Johnson.
Chris Edwards also scored two rushing touchdowns for Southside.
“I’ve been here for five years and I’ve been fighting for a winning season,” said Southside coach Daniel Flowers. “It feels awesome man. The team worked hard this summer.”
Flowers said the team didn’t celebrate afterward, instead keeping its focus on the team’s larger overall goal. Southside can clinch a playoff spot with a win over Central Coosa next week.
