Dallas County is heading back to the South Super Regional in Montgomery.
The Hornets defeated Jemison 25-14, 25-11, 25-14 in the first round of the class 5A, area 6 tournament on Tuesday and secured a spot in the next round of the playoffs. Dallas County lost the area championship game to Calera 25-17, 25-11, 25-13.
“This group of seniors especially has worked really hard,” said Dallas County coach Linda Moore. “This was one of their goals they set this year.”
As Dallas County was playing its match against Jemison, Moore was getting updates on the Beauregard score. Moore’s daughter, Caitlin, is an assistant coach at Beauregard.
In its area semifinal, Beauregard defeated Valley, meaning Caitlin will also get to coach a team in the South Super Regional.
“I think they play a little before we do, so I may get a chance to glance at her game, and I’ll be rooting for her and her team,” Moore said.
Dallas County will play Citronelle and 12:45 p.m. on Thursday at Cramton Bowl. Moore said the Hornets know what they need to do to keep their season going in Montgomery.
“We need to make sure we continue to communicate with each other on the court, make sure we are moving on the court and making sure we continue to play up tempo volleyball,” Moore said.
Selma falls in five sets to Stanhope
Stanhope Elmore defeated Selma 25-11, 22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 15-13 in the class 6A, area 5 tournament, ending the Saint season.
