Pedestrian struck late Friday on Highway 22

An 18-year-old Selma man had to be airlifted to Birmingham after he was struck by a car Friday night on Alabama Highway 22 West just outside of town.

According to Senior Trooper Reginal King with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the accident happened around 10:30 p.m. between Fairview Road and Ramsey Place, which is just west of Hancock’s Barbeque.

King said the 18-year-old was struck by a 2001 Honda Accord headed west. The victim was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, and his condition is unknown.

The accident is still under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.

King said the report did not state what the victim was doing in the road when the accident happened.
