Morgan Academy senior McKenzie Williams got to put on a volleyball jersey one last time this past weekend in the Alabama Independent School Association all-star game.

She more than took advantage of the opportunity.

Although the East won the game, Williams was named the West All-Star team’s MVP in the game. The experience has her reconsidering whether she should play the sport in college.

“Going over there and playing — and the two weeks off since the season ended — made me realize how much I have missed playing volleyball,” Williams said. “It also opened up a new perspective to me of whether or not I should play further in my career or just go to school.”

Williams said she knew a lot of the players on the West squad but had the chance to get to know them better through all-star practices and the game. The team only practiced for about four hours before the game, so they learned how to play together on the fly.

“It was very hard to form a chemistry in four hours,” Williams said. “At Morgan, I had played with those girls since I had been in the eighth grade so there was a chemistry, but going somewhere where none of us had ever played together, it was definitely a challenge.”

Williams said she couldn’t have made the all-star game without the support of her friends, family, coaches and teammates and appreciated their support.
