The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department has released a picture of a suspect that broke into the Valley Grande Dollar General on Alabama Highway 22 Friday night in hopes of someone recognizing them.

Lt. John Hatfield said the department got an alarm activation call around 10:20 p.m. Friday after the store was broken into.

“Once deputies arrived, they realized the front door had been smashed in,” Hatfield said. “After doing a building search nobody was located inside.”

Surveillance footage showed two black males breaking into the store through the front door.

“It showed two black males taking a brick and beating the front window out,” Hatfield said. “They actually broke the window and peeled the glass back and went in through a small hole in the glass that was probably two feet in diameter.”

Hatfield said one suspect had his face covered, but the other one could be seen clearly in surveillance footage from security cameras on the premises.

The suspect that the department released a photo of can be seen wearing a blue or black hoodie, blue jeans and flipflops.

“We’re hoping through the community we’ll be able to identify the suspect,” Hatfield said. “If anybody knows him, they may be able to recognize him.”

Hatfield said the two burglars appeared to get away with nothing but an empty cash drawer.

“They tried to break into the cigarette case and were unsuccessful,” Hatfield said. “So the only thing they actually stole was an empty cash drawer.”

Anyone that recognizes the suspect is asked to call Lt. Hatfield at 876-4840 or Crime Stoppers at 877-3520. Hatfield said a cash reward is being offered through Crime Stoppers for information that leads to an arrest.
