Buying a small piece of jewelry could help someone realize their dream of being a nurse or doctor.
The Vaughan Regional Medical Center’s Auxiliary is having its masquerade sale, with the money raised going toward medical scholarships.
“We give scholarships away every year, and the money will go toward that. We also help the hospital in various projects,” said Martha Plummer, president of the Auxiliary. “It means an awful lot. It helps some people who can’t afford to go to medical school and also it may help us in return. After they graduate, they may come back to work here at Vaughan.”
Along side scholarships, the money will also go towards providing the hospital with various projects. The Auxiliary has helped remodel the chapel at the hospital, bought items for the nursery and helped with the cafeteria, among other contributions.
Plummer said the sale is always exciting for everyone involved, and there’s always a huge crowd.
“Sometimes it’s so crowded in there you can’t event get through the room. It’s lots of fun. You see a lot of people that you haven’t seen in a long time and it’s just a lot of fun to work it,” Plummer said. “We’ve been having this sale for a long, long time.”
The sale is a $5 jewelry and accessories, where they will have rings, bracelets, watches, scarves and more.
“It’s our $5 jewelry sale. Everything is $5. There’s more than just jewelry, there’s all types of accessories. We have scarves, we have leggings, we have Auburn and Alabama stuff, bracelets, we have just all kind of stuff,” Plummer said. “I think it’s good deals and you can get your Christmas items ahead of time and help the Auxiliary.”
The sale will be held Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vaughan’s tower classroom building.
Customers can purchase items using cash and credit or credit cards, and employees of the hospital will be able to use payroll deductions.
“We hope everybody come out and has a good time and enjoys themselves and purchases a lot of jewelry,” Plummer said.
