Your vote matters on Tuesday

It’s been a busy year for elections here in Selma and Dallas County and we all get one more chance to vote on Tuesday.
With not many locally contested races on the ballot, we’re afraid that many people might try to sit out this round of voting. Unfortunately, that would be a big mistake.
The presidential race has been as heated and wild as any in recent memory, with both candidates giving Americans plenty of reasons not to vote for them. There’s also the reality that Donald Trump is likely to win Alabama, one of the most Republican states in the country.
Many will point to that as a reason to sit home Tuesday, but that would mean giving up a stake in the future of our country and missing out on having your voice heard on important issues that impact the state of Alabama.
The focus Tuesday will be on the presidential election, but 14 state amendments are also on the ballot. If voting Clinton, Trump or a third party candidate isn’t enough to get you to the polls, the amendments should. They include amending how constitutional amendments affecting only one county are decided, repealing parts of the Constitution and funding for state parks.
It’s important to make sure your opinion is heard. We encourage you to get to the polls on Tuesday.
