The offers continue to roll in for Southside wide receiver DeQuan Johnson.
Johnson picked up an offer from Alabama State University earlier this week, according to Southside coach Daniel Flowers. Flowers is an Alabama State University graduate.
Johnson already had offers from Virginia State University, Waldorf University, Walsh University, Point University and Cumberland University. He also picked up an offer from Central State in Ohio on Wednesday.
“It’s a blessing,” Johnson said.
The senior wide receiver had 53 receptions for 1,127 yards and 27 total touchdowns this year.
He was one of the biggest contributors during Southside’s 7-4 season and the school’s first playoff berth in a decade.
Johnson said he doesn’t have a timeline set on deciding where he wants to attend school, but he does know what he’s looking for.
“I want to go to a school where I can have a good education to fall back on in case my football doesn’t take off,” Johnson said.
Johnson has already visited Alabama State earlier this year when the Yellow Jackets played Jackson State, Flowers said.
“He likes the football stadium and the school in general,” Flowers said.
Alabama State is the closest school that has offered Johnson a scholarship. The senior said he wasn’t sure whether he wanted to stay close to home for college.
