Ellwood Christian 70, A.L. Johnson 54 (Boys)

Chris Lee scored 27 points and had 15 rebounds as Ellwood Christian topped A.L. Johnson 70-54 on Friday night. Justin Bufford had 13 points and five rebounds and Mel Phillips had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Southside 48, Calhoun 27 (Girls)

Christina Watts scored 15 points and Ki’Onah Page had 14 as Southside topped Calhoun 48-27. Sharita Benjamin and Kylan Brown scored 8 points apiece for the Panthers (3-3).
Southside 47, Calhoun 40 (Boys)

Southside outscored Calhoun 31-13 in the second half to overcome an 11-point halftime deficit in a 47-40 win.

DeQuan Johnson led the way with 14 points, including going 5-for-7 at the free throw line. Zyshawn James also knocked in 9 points for Southside. Nine players in all scored for the Panthers in the game.
Morgan Academy 55, Clarke Prep 28 (boys)

Morgan Academy led Clarke Prep 24-0 after the first quarter Thursday in what turned into a 55-28 win.

On a night where the Senators’ starters played limited minutes, tenth graders Hardin Utsey and Micah Pitts led Morgan with 9 points apiece.

Hayden Bruner, another tenth grader, blocked five shots for Morgan (2-3).

The Senators play at Lowndes Academy on Monday and then have a rematch with Tuscaloosa on Tuesday. Morgan’s JV also defeated Clarke Prep 40-28 to move to 1-2 on the year.
