On Monday, the Dallas County Bar Association recognized retired Fourth Judicial Circuit Judge Jack Meigs for his 25 years of service. Meigs had retired in March, but was officially thanked for his incredible career on Monday.

During his career, Meigs served Dallas, Bibb, Hale, Perry and Wilcox Counties and presided over capital murder cases, divorce cases and civil cases.  He was appointed to his position in 1991 after his predecessor, Charlie Thigpen, was appointed to the Court of Civil Appeals.

Meigs said Monday that he didn’t realize how stressful his job was until he retired. We can only imagine.

Judges are asked to uphold the law to the best of their ability, while also being as fair to both parties as possible.

In high pressure cases, like murder trials, there’s obviously a lot on the line.

“You just have to consider the responsibility that is placed on you because you are affecting people’s lives, and I’ve always tried to take that seriously and to consider the people,” he said.

We want to congratulate Meigs on his great career. He now plans to retire to his farm in Centreville, which should be much less stressful and more relaxing.
