The town of Orrville held its first Christmas parade Saturday with hundreds of people in attendance.
People lined the street to see the different floats and cars, and to catch a lot of candy.
“It was very exciting. I’m glad to see that Orrville is doing something positive for the community. Everybody of all ages could be a part of this,” said Trinia Hunt, who was there watching her daughter Aniyah Hunt participate in the parade. “They have the opportunity to actually build something that’s structural and positive for the community, and it helps people come together and be a big family and not be separated.”
Hunt said she had a great time watching the parade and catching the treats that were thrown out.
“It was so much fun. I got just as much candy as the kids,” Hunt said with a laught. “Today was great. I’m thankful to Mayor [Louvenia] Lumpkin and to the community, anybody that took part today.”
Dyanne Harris, who was there watching her grandson Caybren Crowell, said she was excited for the parade, and it’s something that she hopes will continue in the years to come.
“I’m having a good time already and the parade hasn’t even started,” Harris said. “I just pray that it continues and it be successful every year. I look forward to it.”
Jennifer Bell was also there watching two of her children, Devin, 11, and Sophia, 8, take part in the parade.
“I’m very excited,” Bell said.
“It means a lot to the community because it’s a small community and we don’t do a whole lot here, so I think it’s good for the kids to be able to come out and have some things to do.”
Bell said although there’s a parade in Selma, it’s nice for the Orrville community to have something in their own backyard, allowing people to come out and visit with one another.
“When you live this far out in the country, there’s not much kids get to do and look forward to. So it’s good for them,” Bell said. “I think it’s a good way to bring the community together.”
The Keith High School Marching Band and cheerleaders, School of Discovery cheerleaders and tumbling team, Concordia College Alabama Marching Band, Orrville Volunteer Fire Department and many more organizations took part in the parade.
