Dallas County volleyball coach Linda Moore and Morgan Academy’s Kayla Mason have been named the Times-Journal’s co-volleyball coaches of the year.
Moore led Dallas County to the first regional win in school history when they defeated Citronelle in Montgomery.
It was the first Super regional win in program history.
“We’ve had a program for seven years, and we’ve made it to super regionals seven straight years and we finally got over that first game hump,” Moore said after the win. “I’m very proud of them for that.”
While Moore was building on her team’s recent run of success and growth, Mason was coaching volleyball for the first time.
She led the Senators all the way to the AISA quarterfinals, where they narrowly lost to Lee-Scott.
“They had one heck of a season. Compared to previous years, it’s two, three, four, five, six steps better than it has been and everyone in this gym, everyone that is affiliated with them and loves them knows that,” said Mason said after the game.
“No one expected them to make it close to the Elite Eight this year and they did.”
Keith head coach Towanna Flennory also received strong consideration after leading Keith to its first ever area championship and a trip to the Super Regionals for the first time.
