A domestic violence suspect is recovering and two Selma Police Department officers are on administrative leave after an officer-involved shooting Monday morning.
The incident happened as officers were responding to a domestic violence assault call in the 3000 block of Perham Avenue at 1:10 a.m.
According to interim Selma Police Department Chief Johnny King, officers were advised a woman was being assaulted by her boyfriend. Upon arriving on the scene, officers surrounded the home and heard an argument inside.
As officers entered the front of the residence, the suspect came out of the back door and started shooting at them, according to King.
Shots were exchanged between the suspect and officers. The suspect was struck and transported to an out-of-county medical facility for treatment. King described the suspect, who is in his 20s, as being in “guarded” condition.
The State Bureau of Investigation was notified and responded to the scene. King said the SBI will be handling the investigation per protocol.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, will face charges of attempted murder and domestic violence assault. The names of the officers involved were not released. King said the suspect would be charged when he was released from the hospital.
