John Dandridge Walters

John Dandridge Walters, 76, of Mathews, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.
He was raised in Troy by his parents, John Casey Walters, a local attorney, and Mary Catherine Enzor Walters.
He received his high school diploma from Georgia Military Academy in Atlanta and attended Troy State College. His desire to help others led him to earn his bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Alabama Huntsville.
He moved his family to Selma where he and his wife, Bobbie, founded West Alabama Home Health Agency, later renamed caregivers.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie; son, Pat and daughter-in-law Kay; daughter, Arline McGrew; grandchildren, Ian, Evan, Kate and Will McGrew, Kristan Gruder (Ashir), Megan Hildensperger, Matt Shaeffer (Sarah), Ashley Taylor (Rick) and Andrea Hildensperger; great-grandchildren, Presley, Nolan, Cal and Ben Shaeffer; his sister Kay Tatum; and his brother, James Walters; and his cousin, Joe Gilchrist.
He is predeceased by both of his parents; brother Edward; and cousins, Lane Gilchrist, David Gilchrist and Bill Rozelle.
A celebration of life will be held at Saint James United Methodist Church in Montgomery on Friday, Jan. 20, 2017 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, from 10 a.m. until the service.
