Area Tournament Roundup: Selma boys win, Southside boys lose close one

Selma 62, Chilton County 46 (Boys)
The Selma boys (15-10) are moving on to the class 6A, area 5 championship game.
Jeffery Huff Jr. led three Saints’ players in double figures in a 62-46 win over Chilton County on Wednesday night.
Huff scored 17 points and Jerryone Patterson had 15. James Anderson III also had 13 points.
Chilton was held to only five points over the final five points of the game. Selma coach Ronald Lane said Saints’ senior Jacquez Wright played a large role in Selma’s defense in the final quarter.
The Saints will play Stanhope Elmore Friday at 6:30 p.m. for the championship.
Montevallo 63, Southside 61 (Boys)
Montevallo made two free throws with five seconds left to survive a thrilling game against Southside in the first round of the class 3A, area 5 tournament Wednesday night.
The Panthers were the No. 4 seed in the tournament, but gave Montevallo a game to the final seconds.
R.C. Hatch 49,
Francis Marion 44 (Girls)
R.C. Hatch (18-5) advanced to the class 2A, area 7 championship with a 49-44 win Wednesday over Francis Marion.
Pantiniqua Collins scored 20 points to lead Hatch in the game. Alaysia Norfleet joined her in double figures with 10 points.
Francis Marion saw its season end despite a 19 point performance by Moesha Gayles. Hatch will play Keith Friday.
