Ellwood Christian (14-9) made school history Tuesday night by beating Shades Mountain Christian 87-65. The win punched the Eagles’ first ticket to the Central Regional in Montgomery, where they’ll play Notasulga at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
“It’s so exciting for this school,” said Ellwood coach Darrell Walker. “It’s monumental for our school because this is our first time ever going this far in basketball and I’m so proud of our guys.”
Loveless Craig scored 34 points to lead the Eagles and Duantrey Franklin had 14. The Eagles led 39-29 at halftime and gradually pulled away in the second half.
“Tonight we played great defense,” Walker said. “We played as a team and also my seniors stepped up. Duantrey Franklin, and Loveless Craig they played a very good game.”
Walker said Ellwood will practice at Concordia College Alabama this week, so they can get used to the bigger floor at Alabama State University.
“I am a graduate of Alabama State, so for me to bring my team to the college that made me into the coach I am today, I can’t even explain what it does,” he said.
