The Selma area saw over half an inch of rain on Monday and more wet weather is on the way. The National Weather Service in Birmingham is expecting more storms on Wednesday afternoon, but severe weather is not likely.

Matt Grantham, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Birmingham, said that the Selma area can expect storms between 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday as a line of weather impacts the state. However, it’s unlikely that Selma would see any severe weather.

In the latest storm forecasts, Selma is placed in a limited threat area for severe weather. Portions of Chilton County and Perry County and areas north and northwest have been placed in an elevated threat area.

“Maybe storms with some gusty winds, maybe a little bit of hail as well, but … we don’t really see anything tornadic down that far south,” Grantham said.

The Montgomery area had received about a half inch of rain on Monday at 1 p.m., although rain was still expected into the afternoon.

The rain chance is minimal the rest of the weekend, so good weather is expected for this week’s Bridge Crossing Jubilee. The next chance for rain is expected to be Monday.

The forecasted high temperature for Saturday is 66 degrees and the high Sunday is 74.
