Morgan finishes sixth in state meet

Both Morgan Academy track and field teams finished in the top six of the Alabama Independent School Association’s state championship in Gulf Shores.
The Senators boys finished sixth with 32 points and the Morgan girls team was also sixth with 24 points. Escambia Academy ran away with the boys’ championship — winning by 114 points — and Lee-Scott did the same on the girls’ side. Lee-Scott had 174 points and won by 45 points over second place Tuscaloosa Academy.
Averee Adams had a great final day for the Senators.
Adams finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.57 seconds, was sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.96 seconds and ran a part of Morgan’s second place finish in the 4×100 meter relay.
Adams, Emily Strickland, Sarah Thomas and Peyton Granthum ran the 4×100 meter relay and finished second in a time of 55.10 seconds. The Senators were 0.4 seconds behind first place Lee-Scott Academy. Laney Holladay, Grace Wilkinson, Mary Carolyn Jones and Kristen Little finished sixth in the 4×400 meter relay in a time of 5 minutes, 11.73 seconds.
Caroline Colvin, Anna Laken Tidmore, Holladay and Little were fourth in the 4×800 meter relay in a time of 12 minutes, 37.72 seconds.
Holladay finished sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1 minute, 9.55 seconds.
On the boys’ side, Hardin Utsey finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.27 seconds. He also came home seventh in the 100-meter dash, just outside of the top six point-earning spots.
Peyton Egbert, Dione Allen, Ed Williams and Utsey finished second in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 46.34 seconds, nearly three seconds behind Escambia Academy.
Williams finished seventh in the triple jump with a total of 35 feet, 11 inches.
Thursday’s Morgan results built on a great start to the championships on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Utsey won the long jump and Morgan’s boys’ 4×200 relay team won first place.
Utsey won the long jump, but Senators’ teammate Allen finished fifth.
Colvin finished fourth in the high jump finals with a total of 6 feet, and Tidmore was sixth in the girls’ 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 57.2 seconds. The Senators’ 8×400 relay team, finished fourth. The track and field championships took place at Micky Miller Blackwell Stadium.
