Meadowview sweeps Victory, clinches spot in ACAA semis

The Meadowview Christian baseball team isn’t just going to the playoffs. The Trojans are going straight to the Alabama Christian Athletic Association semifinals.
Not bad for a team that won only three games all of last year.
Jeremy Lee threw 10 strikeouts and allowed only one hit as the Trojans 5-0 over Victory Christian out of Columbus, Mississippi. Meadowview also won a second game 9-4.
“We were really young last year and we’re still young with no seniors. Everybody has gotten bigger and stronger,” said Meadowview coach Lebo Jones. “We picked up a couple kids who didn’t play last year and we’ve just gelled as a team. Winning is contagious.”
The Trojans must like the taste of winning a lot. The team is now 12-3 on the year and has reached the ACAA semifinals for the firsta time. Garrett Brech, Jeremy Lee, Mason Kendrick, Jack Barnes, Justin McGuire, Keymon McGuire and Jon Szymanski all had one hit each. In game two, Brech was the winning pitcher and threw three strikeouts. Lee got the save.
“He’s been great for us,” Jones said of Lee. “When you’ve got a pitcher that you know is going to give you double digit strikeouts in a game, it means a lot because the ball isn’t going to be in play that much. He’s throwing the ball 8 to 10 miles per hour faster this year.”
The state semifinals will take place May 12 at Tuscaloosa Christian with the championship games scheduled for May 13. Meadowview still has three regular season games left, including a home game Thursday against New Life Christian.
After the game, there will also be an open house for anyone that wants to attend.
