This Memorial Day while you are grilling out with your family or relaxing on the Alabama River, take a moment to remember why we as a country celebrate this day. It’s easy to think about Memorial Day as just another holiday, but it’s not.

It is about much more than a day at the beach or a day off work. It is about honoring the men and women that sacrificed their lives so we could enjoy the freedoms that we do. Without their honorable service in the military, we wouldn’t enjoy the things we get to do each day.

Brave men and women have served this country and paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms that we have today.

We hope that while everyone enjoys their Memorial Day, that they also take time to think about those that have done so much for our country.

Be sure to go out to Bloch Park Monday morning at 11 a.m. where the Veterans of Foreign Wars Selma Post 3016 will put on a program in honor of veterans.
