Pool gives children fun, relaxing place out hang out during summer

The sounds of laughter and water splashing could be heard coming from Dinkins Pool in east Selma Tuesday.
The pool is officially back open again, giving children in Selma somewhere to go and something to do this summer while school is out.
The pool was reopened in 2015 after it was closed for two years. The pool got a much needed face lift thanks to help from the Edmundite Missions, who made a large donation to make the repairs possible. The pool was resurfaced, the locker rooms were repainted and cracked concrete around the pool was repaired. The pool also got a new pump.
It’s great to see the city continue to keep the pool open to the public. Children need somewhere to go and something to do, and this is a fun way to spend their summer. Since the pool reopened, the Edmundites have donated money to make sure no one is turned away because they don’t have the money to get in. This year, they donated $5,000 to that cause. It is great to see positive things like this going on in our community.
The pool could be sitting there still in need of renovations, but thankfully the city and the mission did not let it sit there and go to waste. We hope everyone that needs a chance to cool off this summer gets to take a dip in the pool and enjoy having fun with their friends and family.
