The Humane Society of Central Alabama and Selma’s Purrrfect Pals are hoping to get lots of donations from their raffle this Saturday, June 24 at Orrville’s Farmapalooza.

The idea of the raffle came from Jacque Johnson, who has worked with the humane society and the volunteer-operated Purrrfect Pals for several years. The theme of the raffle is “Dad’s Work and Play.”

“We wanted to celebrate the human and pet fathers and their important role in the family during the month when we have Father’s Day,” Johnson said.

The prizes for the raffle were donated from businesses in Dallas County. Some of the prizes include Roundtree and Mark’s Mart gift cards, an Orca cooler, a Tad Moore putter, Realtree auto floor mats, a Yeti tumbler and more.

Though the theme is geared toward dads, Johnson said that there are items for anyone.

“It’s not just a man’s basket,” she said.

Tickets for the raffle can be found at the Selma Animal Hospital and downtown at Swift Drugs. They can be purchased at both locations through the week or at Farmapalooza up until 3 p.m. when the drawing will commence.

Tickets cost $2 each or $5 for three tickets.

Johnson’s work ethic stems from her passion for helping the animals in our community.

“I have a love for animals. I have several of my own,”Johnson said. “I just hate to see animals put down at the shelter, and the only way we can keep that from happening is to get together and do something about it.”

Johnson also said she enjoys working with the volunteers at the humane society and Selma’s Purrrfect Pals trying to make a difference in the community.

The Humane Society is in desperate need of donations because it is currently kitten season.

Johnson said that they have already committed to 30 kittens this season who need good homes.

“They didn’t ask to be born, but we are helping them with it,” she said. “They are going to be good pets to anyone who decides to add them to their family.”

Johnson said that they put on a similar raffle in May that raised a little under $1,000, and it was a huge help to the shelter.

“It really can make a big difference,” Johnson said. “We’re in the hole in our medical funds so it’s very important that we can raise the money to afford to help the animals.”

Johnson also wanted to remind everyone that cats can be adopted at the shelter today, and though the kittens are with foster families now, they will be at the shelter soon.
