A routine security check turned into a high-speed chase that included officers from the Drug Task Force, Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and Selma Police Department Saturday.
The chase ended with officers taking a white male juvenile into custody.
Task Force agent LaRay Donaldson said while he was making his rounds at Bloch Park Saturday, he noticed a car parked near the highway with a male and female in the back seat.
“I pulled up to the car to question them and before I could identify myself the male jumped into the driver’s seat and drove off,” he said. “I activated my blue light and they stopped in the parking lot of Bloch Park. Before I could get out of the car they took off again down Dallas Avenue at a high rate of speed.”
During the chase Donaldson said he used the intercom to encourage the driver to pull over. Finally, he said the driver pulled the car over at a nail salon at the corner of Dallas Avenue and King Street.
But, Donaldson said, the chase was not over yet.
“He then put his car in reverse and rammed my car and took off down King Street again,” he said. “From King Street he took a right on to Montgomery Avenue at a high rate of speed and was committing several traffic violations.”
After another right turn on Pettus Street and an eventual detour back onto Dallas Avenue Donaldson said he was able to stop the driver with assistance from the sheriff’s department and Selma police.
The juvenile has been charged with reckless endangerment and attempt to elude. He was taken to the juvenile detention center.
