Robbery suspect Lekendric Woods pled guilty and was sentenced to 20 years for robbery first degree by Circuit Judge Thomas Jones Tuesday.

District Attorney Michael Jackson said he would continue to pursue stiff sentences for people who commit gun crimes.

“We are going to keep shipping these gunslingers off to prison for a long time,” he said.

Court records said Selma Police Det. Sandra Washburn testified she believed on Oct. 10, 2006, Woods “did, during the course of a theft, threaten the imminent use of force against Shirley Richardson with intent to compel acquiescence to taking the property of (money or purse) and was armed with a dangerous weapon or handgun.”

The handgun was listed as a “possible .38 caliber revolver.”

The court report says Richardson reported to the Selma Police Department she had just pulled into her yard and was attempting to turn off her vehicle off when a black male opened the door and pointed a gun at her saying, “give it up.”

Richardson said she pleaded for her life saying, “don’t shoot me. I don’t have any money and my baby is inside the house.”

At that time, the suspect shut the car door and fled the area. Richardson said the suspect was dressed in dark clothes and had a hooded jacket.
