The Dallas County Hornets (0-1) were shutout in their season opener Friday night against the McAdory High School Yellow Jackets (1-1) 34-0.
Head coach Cliff Matthews will have to wait a bit longer to get his first win as a head coach.
The Hornets depend on their running game, and they weren’t able to get anything started on the ground, according to Matthews.
“We get anything running the ball, and it was just a tough game,” he said.
Matthews also said that the team set themselves back with a few “self-inflicted wounds.”
The Hornets begin area play next Friday, when they go on the road to face the Calera High School Eagles (1-2).
Tuscaloosa Academy gets best of Senators
The Morgan Academy Senators (1-1) lost 28-6 to Tuscaloosa Academy (1-1) Friday night for their first loss of the season.
Several factors contributed to the tough loss for the Senators.
“We gave up a couple of big plays, and we didn’t tackle well,” head coach Josh Thacker said. “The offense didn’t execute inside the red zone. We got inside the 10-yard line twice and couldn’t put it in. We just got to have better execution all the way around.”
The Senators have their first region game at home next Friday against Monroe Academy (3-0).
Meadowview has hard trip to East Memorial
The Meadowview Christian Trojans (0-2) were defeated 50-6 by East Memorial (2-0) this past Thursday, according to head coach Micheal Blair.
The next game for Meadowview Christian will be next Friday at home against Gunn Christian (0-2).
