The Southside High School Panthers defeated Beulah High School 24-18 on a game-winning quarterback sneak in overtime.

The Panthers were down 12-0 early, but head coach Daniel Flowers was able to get his team in check to come back and win the ball game.

“Once the rain came, the game changed,” Flowers said.

According to Flowers, the Panthers stopped being hesitant after the brief shower and were playing sound football.

Wide receiver Keyshawn Arrington caught a touchdown to open the scoring for the Panthers before half time.

Defensive back Edward Moore forced a fumble in the second half that Malik Johnson recovered and returned for a touchdown to tie the game at 12.

Beulah responded with a touchdown of their own and took the lead again.

Johnson showed up on the offensive side of the ball too and threw a touchdown pass to Derrick Johnson to tie the game again and take the game into overtime.

Beulah threatened to score first, but the Panthers made a goal line stand to keep them out of the end zone.

On the Panthers next drive, Gneil Johnson ran a quarterback sneak into the end zone from the 1-yard line on fourth down to win the game.

“That’s two weeks in a row [the team] was resilient,” Flowers said. “We could have easily tucked our tails and just quit. Our boys showed heart.”

The Panthers will go on the road to face Pike County (2-1) next Friday in Brundidge.

MEADOWVIEW LOSES TO NEW LIFE

The Meadowview Christian Trojans (0-4) lost 52-24 to New Life Christian (4-0) Friday night in Millbrook.

Both teams scored on their first possessions, but the Trojans weren’t able to hang with New Life for very long.

On Meadowview’s next possession, three bad snaps put them 40 yards behind the first down marker.

“I just didn’t have them prepared for all they needed to be ready for,” Trojans head coach Micheal Blair said. “Bottom line, the kids went out there and played. They did the best they could.”

The Trojans had three linemen get injured in the game, which made it even tougher for them. Senior Mason Kendrick had a bad ankle injury that forced him to leave the game, according to head coach Micheal Blair.

Meadowview has their homecoming game next Friday, Sept. 22 against Lighthouse Home School.
