The lobsters are coming. St. Paul’s Episcopal Church’s annual Lobsterfest is only a couple of weeks away and organizers are asking people to go ahead and buy tickets because they sell out each year.
“We need people to go ahead and buy them and be thinking about if they’re coming because we can only sell so many tickets,” said organizer Nancy Travis.
Tickets are available at St. Paul’s church office, Four Seasons Garden Center, Little Friends School and Queen City Market for $35 for eat in with seating at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. and $30 for take-out from 5-7 p.m.
The event usually brings in around 500 people each year between eat in and take-out.
All of the money raised goes to Little Friends School to help with their expenses.
“It’s a big community event,” Travis said. “It’s not just St. Paul’s, it’s a community event where people come from all over town.”
Travis said the food is always good, but it’s also nice to run into old friends and make new ones.
“We love to have people that have never been before,” Travis said. “It’s a great time to fellowship and see friends you haven’t seen in a while and the food is fabulous.”
The fresh Maine lobsters are some of the best lobsters, according to Travis.
“The lobsters are flown in from Maine to Mobile and they come in live, and they’re picked up and driven to Selma,” Travis said. “The lobster man himself cooks them. Everyone last year said they were the best lobsters that we’ve had.”
Tickets can be purchased by calling the church at 874-8421 or at any of the other locations. The last day to buy tickets is Oct. 11 at noon, if there are any still available. The event is Oct. 12 at St. Paul’s.
“We’re very excited about it,” Travis said. “It’s a lot of work, but we always have a lot of fun doing it and we just want to do this for Little Friends. We want the community to come out and help support us.”
