The Selma center of Alabama Teen Challenge is hosting its annual banquet at the Carl Morgan Convention Center on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m.

Alabama Teen Challenge is “an addiction recovery and Christian discipleship program for men, women struggling with life-controlling problems.”

The banquet is not only a fundraiser for the organization, but an opportunity for ATC to show the work that it’s been doing and the effect it has had on the lives of the people within its program.

“It’s our largest fundraiser of the year that goes to benefit our center,” ATC intake coordinator and high school counselor Ken Schroeder said. “Our banquet theme this year is ‘God Uses Broken Things,’ and the proceeds from the banquet will be used to help us purchase some safe and reliable transportation for our center.”

Former graduates of the program from Selma such as Joel Horton, Derrick Sims, David Clifton, Jesse Brasher and Sam Poe will share their testimonies of overcoming their addictions with the help of ATC.

“They’re going to share how God has used them since graduating,” Schroeder said. “The audience is going to hear that there is hope for people that are battling addiction.”

Schroeder also hopes that the banquet brings awareness to ATC and what they’ve been doing. The center has been operating in the Selma community for nine years, he said.

“We invite the community to come out and support the banquet,” Schroeder said. “This community has been so supportive of Teen Challenge from the moment we opened this center.”
