A head-on collision on Highland Avenue in Selma Tuesday morning left one person dead and another seriously injured, while causing lengthy delays along the normally busy highway.

According to the Selma Police Department Sgt. Doug Stewart officers and the Selma Fire Department responded to a call at around 7:35 a.m. at the corner of Highland Avenue and Lincoln Drive.

“Preliminary investigations indicates that one of the drivers crossed over into oncoming traffic and collided with the second vehicle head on,” Stewart said.

L and S Motors owner Kay Holbrook said he was at his dealership when he heard the crash.

“We heard the collision and immediately spun around and saw a car flying through the air and land in the median,” Holbrook said. “We ran out to help them.”

The driver of one of the vehicles, Robert Foster, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stewart said the driver of the other vehicle, Sharon Eaton, 35, was taken to Vaughn Regional for what was reportedly non-life threatening injuries.

Stewart said the accident is still under investigation by officer Willie Felder.

A second, unrelated accident later Tuesday, in front of Verizon Wireless on Highland Avenue, sent one person to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Stewart said the accident is still under investigation.
