The Selma Dallas County Public Library will be hosting three different Lunch at the Library events for the end of January and throughout February.

Lunch at the Library encourages people of all ages to come out and enjoy good food and good company.

Each lunch has a different guest host with a different talent or passion.

According to Becky Nichols, an employee of Selma Dallas County Public Library, Lunch at the Library is now in its 25th year. Reservations are $8 and maximum capacity is 40 people. All events begin at noon.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, Jamie Alvey will present her arts and crafts to the people of Selma. Nichols called Alvey’s crafts “amazing.” Alvey’s event has already reached maximum capacity.

On Thursday, Feb. 8, Chef Harry Dominick from Edmundite Missions will cook meals for the library and attendees.

With this being so close to Valentine’s Day, “Chef D” will teach Selma residents how to make champagne chicken for a significant other. The chicken will come with a pomegranate vinaigrette with sides of sweet potatoes, roasted baby squash and berries and cream.

Dominick, who usually cooks hundreds of meals a day for people in need with Edmundite, is happy to contribute to the community in any way. He is not the type of person who holds things in but rather finds joy in sharing his passion with other people.

“This gives me an opportunity to showcase what I love doing in a new area,” Dominick said. “I love to show my gift to everyone. Giving back is the ultimate thing I get pleasure from out of this”

Two weeks after that on Feb. 22, Selma native Maurice A. Hobson will be the guest for the lunch. Hobson is the author of “The Legend of the Black Mecca,” which covers the history and achievements of the African-American population in Atlanta, Georgia, while also covering the political shortcomings in protecting the well-being of the black community.

According to Nichols, these three dates have sparked excitement for the Selma residents and also those who work at the library.

“We are looking forward to having them for our events,” Nichols said. “Organizations such as Edmundite Missions were very helpful in setting this up.”
