Miss Alabama, Amanda Tapley, will visit Selma today. She will give a motivational talk, answer questions and perform for students at the Performing Arts Center in Selma.
Tapley is from Birmingham. She is a music and pre-med major at Samford University. She is an accomplished musician, both pianist and vocalist, and she aspires to become a pediatric oncologist.
This is part of the Selma-Dallas Youth Leadership group event for today. Miss Alabama will leave the Performing Arts Center about 10:30 a.m. to go to the Riverdale Mill, which will be the group’s host for the day, said Carolyn Powell, who directs the Leadership program.
Youth Leadership is made up of about 30 11th-grade students who represent all the public and private high schools in the county.
Participants in the Youth Leadership program visit the mill each year as part of learning about local industry.
