The qualifying period for the June Democratic and Republican primaries ended Friday.

The election is scheduled for June 5, and several state and county offices will be on the ballot. If needed, a primary runoff is scheduled for July 17. The general election will be held on Nov. 6.

Congresswoman Terri Sewell, incumbent, has qualified to run for reelection for the U.S. House of Representatives District 7 seat.

Senator Hank Sanders qualified to run for reelection for Alabama Senate District 23, but he announced Saturday he intends to withdraw his name from the race. Sanders’ daughter, Malika Sanders-Fortier, also qualified to run for the seat.

Incumbent Prince Chestnut qualified for the Alabama House of Representatives District 67 race. Jelani “Shaun” Coleman has also qualified to run for the District 67 seat.

Collins Pettaway Jr., incumbent, has qualified to run for circuit judge place one for the Fourth Judicial Circuit.

Two candidates have qualified to run for Dallas County Circuit Clerk, Lynnethia Robinson and Christmas Green-Williams, who was appointed to serve the remainder of former Circuit Clerk Cheryl Strong-Ratcliff’s term.

Three candidates have qualified to run for the State Democratic Executive Committee: Nancy Gardner Sewell, David Hodo and Terrell Marshall. No Republican candidates qualified for any of the state races for Dallas County.

Leonard Ingram, chairman of the Dallas County Republican Party, said no Republican candidates qualified for local races either.

According to Ozetta Thomas, treasurer for the Dallas County Democratic Executive Committee, 34 Democratic candidates have qualified for local races.

Six candidates qualified to run for Dallas County Probate Judge. Kim Ballard has decided not to run after serving two terms. Robert W. Green, Franklin “Bishop of the Black Belt” Fortier, Clifford Hunter, Henry Lewis Moore Jr., Jimmy Nunn and Nicholas Switzer are vying for the seat.

Earnest “Ray” Donaldson, Michael D. Goings and Mike Granthum have qualified for the sheriff race.

Martis M. Black Jr. and incumbent W. Alan Dailey are in the race for coroner.

Incumbent Roy Edwards and Melvin Flanagan-Brown qualified to run for the Dallas County Board of Education District 2 seat. Carolyn Bates, incumbent, Frank Chestnut Sr. and Mamie Williams-Solomon are in the running for District 3.

Qualified candidates for District 1 on the Dallas County Democratic Executive Committee are Carolyn Bates, Charles Johnson Sr., Johnnie Leashore and Donovan McGuire. District two candidates are Collin Lett, David Hodo, Herman Williams and Ozetta Thomas. District 3 candidates are George P. Evans, Labarron Mack, L.L. Ruffin, Darryl Thomas, Warren “Billy” Young and Camella Holloway. District 4 candidates are William Powell, Abina Billups, Synethia “CC Perkins” Pettaway and Brenda “BJ” Smothers.

Independent candidates have until June 5, the same day as the primaries, to qualify for the general election.
