The Meadowview Christian Trojans baseball team had an easy day in the field Thursday afternoon as sophomore starting pitcher Jeremy Lee dominated from the mound in the 9-0 victory in game one against region opponent Victory Christian School (Columbus, Mississippi).

“He’s just a dependable pitcher,” Meadowview head coach Scott Gunter said. “He’s got good stuff. Every time he’s out there, we know we have a good chance to win.”

Lee pitched from the windup for nearly the entire ball game.

He wears an ankle brace on his left foot since he injured that ankle during football season this past fall, but it had no effect on his performance.

Lee pitched a complete game, no-hit shutout with 12 strike outs on 58 pitches in five innings of work.

He was working on a perfect game through the fourth inning, until he hit a batter on an 0-1 pitch. He punched his mitt in frustration, but went back to the mound and struck out the next two batters to finish the inning.

Lee’s fastball has been clocked at 86 miles per hour, and he used it efficiently to get ahead of and finish off batters. Hitters were consistently late on pitches and were swinging in self-defense on balls on the inner-third of the plate.

“My fastball was working well today,” he said. “I was just blowing it by them.”

Victory batters fouled off a few pitches, but only put three balls in play against Lee. None of which went beyond the infield dirt.

Victory managed to get on base with two outs in the top of the fifth inning due to an error, but Lee picked him off trying to steal second.

Even though Lee was in control the whole game, Meadowview’s offense was held to two-runs until the bottom of the fourth inning.

Victory loaded the bases with no outs, and the Trojans took advantage of the opportunity. Victory changed pitchers, and Meadowview’s offense jumped on the new arm quickly.

A walk, back-to-back singles, a double to the left field fence and another single stretched the Trojans lead to 9-0.

“The run support gave me the confidence to go out there and just play my game,” Lee said.

The top half of the Trojans lineup got the timely hits the team needed to take advantage of Victory’s struggling pitchers.

“We had some key hits,” Gunter said. “When you put it in play, things happen.”

Leadoff hitter Alex Colquitt went two-for-three with two runs scored. Lee was two-for-three with a double and three RBI’s, and Mason Kendrick went two-for-three with a double.

The win in game one, brought the Trojans one win closer to clinching a spot in the playoffs.

The next home region game is April 17 against Tuscaloosa Christian at 4 p.m.
