Summertime is quickly approaching and community members will have a chance to have some fun in the sun while playing ball for a cause. Meadowview Christian School is hosting a coed softball fundraiser game on its softball field on June 2 at 9 a.m. to raise money for new bleachers for their field.
The game is open to the public and teams will be picked as participants arrive.
The cost is $5 per person for ages 10 and up per game. There is no charge for spectators. The first 20 players will be divided equally into two teams.
There is no age limit to play, however, younger players will be required to play outfield.
Former Meadowview Christian student Jessica Lovelady said that after attending one of her sister’s games at Meadowview, she and DeAnn McGilberry decided to put a plan in motion to update the school’s bleachers.
“We want to have safety first,” Lovelady said. “I don’t want anybody getting hurt on the bleachers.”
Lovelady said getting the bleachers updated is a small way for her to give back to her former school. She said she is happy to help the athletic department because they need help from time to time.
“My heart is in that school,” Lovelady said. “We think it’s important to keep it in as good of a condition as we can afford.”
According to Lovelady, Meadowview is one big family and she is excited to see familiar faces and also to meet new ones at the game.
“You feel like you’re walking into your house when you come to Meadowview Christian and it’s overwhelming love,” Lovelady said.
