Residents of the Black Belt will have two opportunities for free health screenings this week.

An information meeting on an upcoming program, “The Power to Prevent Diabetes,” will be held Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Ebenezer Baptist Church, which is located on LeGrande Street.

Church congregations are encouraged to send two to three representatives to attend the meeting where the program will be discussed and members may register and attend classes.

Dallas County Extension Coordinator Coordinator Callie Nelson said in a release diabetes is becoming a problem for more and more families in the Black Belt.

“Diabetes is on the rise in our county and communities,” she said. “Nearly everyone in your congregation is affected by this disease. Either they suffer from the disease or have a family member who does.”
