On Saturday, students from the MedHearts Training LLC program completed their program with a certification ceremony at Potter’s Place Church in Selma.

“We encountered negativity from every direction,” said Jekerra Robinson during her speech at the ceremony. “We knew that this would not be a walk in the park, but we kept going. We started with over 60 students and ended with the few of us that you see here today.

“Our determination is a key factor that determined our worth,” she said. “We knew that all things are possible through God, and we stayed focused on the goal. Look at us now ready to go into the field as phlebotomist and medical assistants. We have set goals and we have accomplished them.”

In the Medical Assistant program, the students attended the program for 16 weeks.

“There was a lot to do in that time,” said Robinson, “Modules and comprehensive tests. We met every other Saturday.”

Robinson said that she was excited about the opportunities this certification had for her, and that the type of work was something she would enjoy.

“I’m a people person,” she said.

“It was not an easy journey doing this work,” said Ellena Tabb who completed the Phlebotomy Training. “It was hard work and dedication, and sometimes we were not able to be with our family and friends because we were trying to study to better our lives.”

Tabb said she hopes to do more with her certification and to help with the MedHearts Training program.

MedHearts Training has locations in Valdosta, Georgia, Tallahassee, Florida and Orrville. The program also offers mobile training.
