Summer is here and the Selma-Dallas County Public Library has a calendar full of events for local children. The seven-week Sensational Selma Summer 2018 program is June 4 – July 20.

Magic shows, puppet Shows, petting zoo, cooking lessons, water color painting, bingo and arts and crafts are amongst the things the little ones will have to keep them busy for the next two months.

Of the various activities and events, the petting zoo is the most popular.

Selma-Dallas County Library executive director, Becky Nichols said the children love the petting zoo and it is sure to draw a large crowd each year.

“It’s actually one of the highlights of our summer,” Nichols said.

Children will have the opportunity to pet small animals from the Grace Petting Zoo on Thursday, June 7 from 9:30-11 a.m.

The Prattville based zoo will line the library’s lawn with baby goats, chickens and other small animals for the children to love on.

“Nothing more fun in the world than children getting to know animals, especially baby animals,” Nichols said.

Last year over 400 children stopped by the library’s lawn to pet and love on the animals.

Not only will the children have a chance to meet a furry friend, they can also cool down with a popsicle as there will be plenty for them to choose from.

“After [the children] pet the animals [they will] wash [their] hands and enjoy a nice cool popsicle,” Nichols said. “What’s more fun for a summer day?”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information on the Sensational Selma Summer 2018 visit www.selmalibrary.org/ or call the library at 334-874-1730.
