Students should keep beginning of the year momentum

On Monday, the classrooms of Dallas County and Selma City schools were filled after a summer break. While it was obvious that not every child was excited to return, the educators have been preparing all summer for this day.
Whether it was the 100 Black Men group at Craig Elementary School or Selma City Schools Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams, the students were met with an encouraging high-five or a friendly smile, and asking what they were looking forward to that year.
Each student has an opportunity to start this year off great.
It is always easy to start out enthusiastic and focused on doing good in school, but by the time mid-semester breaks roll around, half of the students will have slacked off.
We encourage the students to work hard this year. It is every teacher’s goal to push their students to do the work they know that they can do.
Students, we hope that you don’t lose the momentum that the start of the year brings.
