The Selma Police Department made two arrests on Aug. 3 from a death that occurred last year.
On Friday, the Selma Police Department Criminal Investigations Division (SPDCID) and Special Operations Unit arrested Tristian Dial, 31, was on a murder indictment. Almetric Matthew, 33, was also arrested on an indictment for criminal negligent homicide.
Earlier this month, Dial was arrested for child abuse. The arrest stems from the same incident covered in the indictment. Dial was placed in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond for the murder charge, a Class A felony in Alabama.
Matthew was also booked into the Dallas County Jail on a $20,000 bond for the criminal negligent homicide charge, a Class A misdemeanor in Alabama.
The indictment and arrest stems from an ongoing investigation into the death of a 23-month old child that occurred on Aug. 14, 2017. The child was pronounced dead shortly after being brought to Vaughan Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Selma. An autopsy conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Science determined the manner of death was a homicide caused by multiple blunt force trauma.
Investigators from SPDCID presented the findings of the investigation to a Dallas County Grand Jury in August 2018.
“The death of this defenseless and innocent child is disturbing,” Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier said. “With the assistance of the District Attorney’s Office, our investigators were persistent in their investigation and we are grateful to the Dallas County Grand Jury.”
