For more than a decade, Julie R. Sams Family Dentistry has been servicing the Selma and Dallas County community. Housed in a historical building on Alabama Avenue, Dr. Julie Sams, owner of the dental office, said it was time for a few changes.

“We’ve been in this building for 13 years,” she said. “At about 2014, I started to notice that we had outgrown the building we are in.”

Before the renovations, patients would have to stand in the waiting room on busy days due to the small space. Sams said the new renovations will provide more space in the waiting area, which in turn will lead to the patients being comfortable during their wait.

“We needed a bigger waiting room, more operatory rooms to see patients and so I started looking around to find someone that was interested in doing the job,” she said. “Patients won’t have to wait as long to get an appointment because we have more chairs available.”

She said the extra space also helps her to provide multiple services in one day.

“When patients come in and they are getting their teeth cleaned and they need work done, we are able to say we can probably do it now because there is a room available,” she said.

Not only did the waiting room receive the necessary upgrades, the entire downstairs received a makeover.

“We renovated the inside downstairs, which is where our waiting room is. The whole office is basically brand new downstairs, everything has been repainted and it’s so fresh and so clean,” she said. “We have a new handicap accessible bathroom. We built 1,400 square feet of new dental operatories.”

Sams said the extra 1,400 square feet provided space for two more operating rooms.

“We did have five rooms and now with the expansion we have seven rooms,” she said. “You can get a lot more done with two extra rooms.”

The ribbon cutting and open house for Julie R. Sams Family Dentistry located at 724 Alabama Avenue will be on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 5 – 7p.m.
