Like his parents before him, Warren “Billy” Young has dedicated his life to serving others.

At a young age, his mother and father showed him examples of selflessness.

“I grew up in a time where community service was a natural part of your life,” Young said. “My father was an educator for 52 years. Teaching did not stop when school was over, he then went and volunteered.”

His dedication to the community has been noticed by his fraternity. He is currently serving his third term as president of the Delta Pi Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

“We do a lot of community service, not just in Selma, but throughout the Black Belt,” he said.

March of Dimes, Salvation Army bell ringing and adopt-a-mile are just a few of the community service initiatives Young participates with his fraternity.

As a chief mentor for the organization’s group, Alpha Academy Young spends quality time with local youth.

Being able to take his mentees to a football game, teaching them how to tie a tie or taking them to work with him means the world to Young.

“Mentoring is the thing that I find the most joy out of,” he said. “I’ve had the pleasure of taking mentees with me to shadow me in court and see me practice law.”

Young serves as the Assistant Attorney General at the Department of Revenue. Even with his demanding job, he is involved in multiple organizations in the community.

Young is the Chairman of the Deacon Board at First Baptist Church, president of the 100 Black Men of Selma, Vice President of the Chesterfield Club, serves on the Board of Directors for the YMCA, serves on the Selma Downtown Redevelopment Board, member of the Black Belt Bar Association and is a Real Men Wear Pink 2018 participant.
