Jason Walker has been a deputy with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office for a little over a few months, however his passion for his justice supersedes his years as a deputy.
“I started as a 9-1-1 operator, and basically you go from taking the calls to answering the calls,” he said. “It’s a major difference. It’s good being outside talking to people.”
He was a dispatcher from 2009 until January 2018.
“I started with the sheriff’s department in January and started with the academy,” he said. “I graduated from the academy in April.”
He said being from Selma and having years of relationships with people in the community has made his job a little easier.
According to Walker, the miscommunication amongst law enforcement and the community doesn’t affect him as often as it would another officer.
Walker said being an officer has its dangerous parts, but it also provides many rewarding parts.
“Being able to provide more for my family, and interacting with the public are two of the most rewarding parts of my job,” he said.
