Vaughan Community Health Services Expo held its first National Women’s Health Fitness day on Wednesday at two different locations.
The Paul Grist YMCA and In Shape Fitness both were packed with vendors and people visiting booths.
Orrville Farmer’s Market, Plexus and several in-state independent businesses participated in the event.
Karen Morris, a community health educator with Vaughan Community Health Services, said it was a successful event.
“It was a great turnout at both places,” Morris said. “I’m pleased with the vendors and people coming out. People were interested. The YMCA picked up new membership from the event.”
Orrville Farmer’s Market owner Judy McKinney praised the daylong event, especially Morris’ hard work.
“Vaughan Regional Medical Center is a great asset to the community and Karen does a great job,” McKinney said.
Cindy Duck, a Yoga Instructor, health and fitness coach and Aerobics Instructor in Selma, said it was the perfect opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle.
“The event is amazing,” Duck said. “When they asked me to do this, I didn’t know what to expect. Everything I do is about health and fitness.”
Tracy Stevens, whose company, Just Breathe, sells essential oils that provides remedies for headaches and other parts of the body. She also uses plant oils.
“We started using essential oils that helped with stress headaches,” Stevens said. “It’s been very helpful.”
Kendra Gilpin of Vaughan Regional Medical Center handed out a questionnaire to people about hereditary cancer. She said it’s important to talk to family members with the possibility of having cancer.
