The Dallas County Career Tech Center was presented a $5,000 grant from Prince Chestnut, Representative for House District 67 legislative office earlier this month.
Jerolene Williams, career technical director for the career center, said the money benefits the students’ future.
“I applied for the grant to assist the career tech students at the Dallas County Career Tech Center with their career aspirations,” she said. “We want to expose them to what’s out there.”
The program’s goal is to expose the students to different career opportunities by taking them to different businesses and colleges.
Williams said its target audience is the students in the Dallas County School System.
“We are going to take the students to different schools so they can make a sure decision of what school they want to go to,” she said.
During his visit, Chestnut greeted the students and toured the facilities.
“He went around and made visits to the classrooms, saw the shops, labs and the equipment,” Williams said. “He said he was going to do more in the future to help us.”
Williams said she is appreciative of Chestnut because this grant does make a difference in the student’s lives.
